Die estnische Staatsführung ist über die Haltung der EU zum Beitrittswunsch des eigenen Landes enttäuscht. Der estnische Präsident Lennart Meri äußert in dem Gespräch den Verdacht, daß sich in Europa wieder ein geopolitisches Gedankengut breitmacht, daß auf Einflußzonen Rücksicht nehmen will. Die Interessen Rußlands spielen dabei seiner Meinung nach eine übergroße Rolle. Bei der Ost-Erweiterung der EU geht es nach Ansicht Meris nicht um kurzfristige Ziele, sondern um eine "Vision des nächsten Jahrhunderts". Meri übt in diesem Zusammenhang und im Hinblick auf einen eventuellen Nato-Beitritt Estlands Kritik an widersprüchlichen Äußerungen Bonns. (BIOst-Mrk)
