Nach einem ziemlich düsteren Einstieg nimmt eine zuversichtliche Geschichte voller Freundschaft, Hilfsbereitschaft und Optimismus ihren Lauf. Archie hat die tollsten Ideen, wie sie Ros Mutter aus dem Gefängnis schmuggeln könnten. Beglückt erlebt Ro, dass immer mehr Kinder zu ihm halten und dabei helfen, einen großen Ballon für eine Befreiungsaktion zu nähen. Auch als klar wird, dass die Mutter das geheime Logbuch tatsächlich gestohlen hat, behält sie die ganze Sympathie des Lesers, denn sie hat sehr mutig, selbstlos und kurz entschlossen gegen Geldgier und für die Rettung des Nordpols gehandelt. Nach "Krasshüpfer" (ID-A 4/16) ist dem Autor wieder ein unterhaltsames, berührendes und empfehlenswertes Jugendbuch gelungen, das Kinder dazu ermutigt, niemals aufzugeben. Auch für Leseclubs im Sommer!
