Carl Orffs 1937 uraufgeführte Carmina burana sind nicht ohne Grund das Populärste, was das 20. Jahrhundert im Bereich chorischer Vokalmusik hervorgebracht hat. Orff benutzte für diese weltlichen Gesänge Texte nach lateinischen, mittelhochdeutschen und altfranzösischen Handschriften, die 1803 im Kloster Benediktbeuern in Bayern gefunden wurden. Sie sind eine Hommage an den Frühling, die Taverne und die Liebe, versehen mit dem erhobenen Zeigefinger auf das Rad des Schicksals. Kristjan Järvi, der neue musikalische Leiter des MDR-Sinfonieorchesters, legt eine mitreißende Neuaufnahme mit dem klanggewaltigen MDR-Rundfunkchor und dem MDR-Kinderchor vor. Als Solisten glänzen Kiera Duffy, Marco Panuccio und Daniel Schmutzhard. Grundbestand für alle.
