Einem Überblick über das gesamte Sonnensystem und dessen Entstehung folgt eine detaillierte Darstellung dessen äußeren Teils jenseits des Mars: Asteroidengürtel, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus und Neptun und deren wichtigste Monden. Es folgen der Kuiper-Gürtel und die Oortsche Wolke, die Welt der Kleinplaneten und Kometen. Alles mit ausführlicher Beschreibung beispielhafter Objekte, auch deren Entdeckung und Erforschung, verbunden mit aktuellem Bild- und Zahlenmaterial. Achtung: bei der Definition der Astronomischen Einheit, der Entfernung Erde-Sonne, wurde zwar eine richtige Zahlenfolge angegeben, jedoch mit falscher Größenordnung, weiter einmal statt 1980er-Jahren 19080er. Stichproben bei weiteren Daten waren in Ordnung; wohl ein Satzfehler, allerdings sehr auffällig. Empfehlenswertes Sachbuch, breit verständlich, übersichtlich, aktuell; eine erweiterte astronomische Heimatkunde, auch geeignet für Referate. Gut auch neben Ralf Jaumann (ID-A 3/18), Axel M. Quetz (ID-B 6/18), Nadja Podbregar (ID-B 32/14) und dem allerdings etwas älteren Bildband "Das Sonnensystem" (ID-A 25/12).
