Isolde Moser erzählt in diesem Buch den außergewöhnlichen Lebensweg ihres Urahns Josef Sechterberger. In der Steiermark aufgewachsen, nahm er 1813 als zwanzigjähriger Artilleriesoldat an der Völkerschlacht bei Leipzig teil. Ein militärisches Großereignis, das im österreichischen Geschichtsbewusstsein kaum präsent ist. Obwohl die österreichische Beteiligung an dieser Schlacht und am darauf folgenden Winterfeldzug und Frühjahrsfeldzug 1813/1814, an dem Josef Sechterberger auch teilnahm, wesentliche Beiträge zur ersten Entmachtung Napoleons waren. Die Autorin hat aufgrund von Tagebuchnotizen, die ihr Urururgroßvater hinterließ, sein Soldatenleben recherchiert. Diese Hinterlassenschaft ist eine Rarität, gehörte Josef Sechterberger als Kanonier doch der militärischen Unterschicht an. Von den einfachen Soldaten der napoleonischen Kriege ist wenig Schriftliches überliefert. Das Ende dieser Lebensgeschichte ist der Beginn eines neuen Zeitalters.(AUT)
