Dieser Hirt wirbt nicht um eine Prinzessin, er wirbt einfach und direkt um Verständnis. Er will wissen, was jenseits des Flusses geschehen ist. Warum ist es streng verboten, ihn zu überqueren und warum hat es seine Schwester trotzdem getan? Er findet die richtigen Freunde, den Abt Roger und Amélie im roten Kleid. Mit ihrer Hilfe erlernt er das Alphabet und erwirbt so den Schlüssel zum Verständnis seiner begrenzten Welt und ihrer furchtbaren, geheimnisumwitterten Geschichte. Ein in klarer, "bäuerlicher" Sprache geschriebener Roman, der hoffen lässt, diese sehr interessante Autorin, die auch als Regisseurin Erfolg hat, möge der Literatur treu bleiben. Empfehlenswert und breit einsetzbar.
