Attractive, humorous and uncomfortable, the works of Cisco Jiménez (Cuernavaca, Morelos, 1969) are complex aesthetic beings. This thematic review shows examples of his paintings, collages, sculptures, ceramics, assemblages and installations produced from the early 1990s to the present day. The exhibition seeks to highlight Jiménez's unique use of figuration and analytical approach in critiquing contemporary culture and its historical precedents. Cropping, dissection, grafting, and diagramming are some of the formal and conceptual methods that link the artist's practice to the traditions of anatomical drawing and study. The bodyʺ he addresses is the cultural context of the state of Morelos, where the artist currently lives and works. His works continually seek to position the aesthetic complications of his native context in dialogue with regional and national dynamics. Since his early training as an editorial cartoonist, the rich and disjunctive visual language he has developed is based on diverse influences, which include surrealism, pre-Hispanic and colonial painting and sculpture, science fiction, recent conceptualisms, as well as street vernacular. Text plays an important role in many of Jiménez's pieces, either as titles or within his compositions, often giving them their particular punk or politically charged character. The exhibition is divided into four sections that respond to the specific architecture of the Museum's rooms. Presented in a dense salon-style museography and intentionally following a non-chronological structure, each space focuses on a series of symbols and investigations undertaken by the artist. These four thematic delimitations are, at best, tentative, as multiple and diverse interests are repeatedly combined within a single work by Jiménez; However, they offer an attempt at discursive dismemberment of his intricate production
