Der Hilfskreuzer Wolf unter dem Kommando von Fregattenkapitän Nerger lief 1916 vom Skagerrak aus an der norwegischen Küste entlang in den Nordatlantik, umfuhr Island nördlich durch die Dänemarkstraße und ging anschließend auf Südkurs. Anschließend umrundete die SMS Wolf das Kap der guten Hoffnung, wo sie Minen legte, und durchfuhr dann den Indischen Ozean Richtung südasiatische Küste. Dort legte sie Minen vor den Häfen von Bombay und Colombo. Es folgten Einsätze in den Gewässern Südostasiens, Australiens und Neuseelands. Dort wurden gegnerische Schiffe ausfindig gemachte und versenkt. Der Autor berichtet von den Kriegseinsätzen des Hilfskreuzers.
