Wir waren neugierig: Hat die Literaturwissenschaft Stil? Und vielleicht sogar mehr als einen? Oder doch gar keinen? Pflegen Autorinnen und Autoren, die sich hauptberuflich auf unterschiedliche Weise (z.B. historisch, immanent, gesellschaftskritisch, medienhistorisch) mit literarischen Stilphänomenen verschiedener Provenienz beschäftigen, ein Verhältnis zur eigenen Schreibtätigkeit? Darf man sie schicklich danach fragen? Die hier verhandelten Autorinnen und Autoren können keine dieser Fragen mehr beantworten, denn sie leben nicht mehr. Aber lebende Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler haben sich auf unsere Einladung hin über die Texte dieser Toten gebeugt und sie auf ihren Stil hin befragt. Das Resultat dieses Experimentes verschafft doppelte Einsicht, in vergangene wie in gegenwärtige Stil-Präferenzen. Ein paar überraschend neue Perspektivierungen und Pointen gibt es auch. Vollständigkeit wurde nicht angestrebt. Es handelt sich um Fall-Studien zu Personen- und Gruppenstilen. Sie werden gerahmt von Überlegungen zu den historischen Zulassungsbedingungen von Stil für Prosa (Ralf Simon) und zu Stilgemeinschaften im Netz (Moritz Baßler).
