H. I. H. Prince Takahiro Mikasa (1915‒2016), the fourth son of the late Emperor Taisho, was a distinguished scholar focusing in the history and religion of the ancient Near East, popularly known as Oriento-no Miyasama (Prince of the Orient) among the Japanese public. His wide-ranging contributions to research include laying the foundation of the Society for Near Eastern Studies in Japan in 1954, which greatly facilitated this research field becoming popular among the Japanese scientific communities. In memory of the prince and his great scientific contributions, the present volume is dedicated to featuring a collection of research articles to show the recent achievements of the society members in archaeology, art history, Assyriology, and linguistics of the Ancient Near East. All the articles are written in English.
