Ein wesentlicher Faktor für die rasante wirtschaftliche Entwicklung des Niederlausitzer Montanreviers zwischen Domsdorf und Werminghoff (Knappenrode) sowie Calau und Skaska waren die zahlreichen Arbeitskräfte, die dem entstehenden Industrierevier zuströmten. Um ihnen eine Unterkunft zu bieten, aber auch um die angeworbenen Fachkräfte an das eigene Unternehmen zu binden und um sie zu disziplinieren, errichteten vor allem die Montanunternehmen eigene Werkswohnungen, Werkshäuser und Werkskolonien.00Die vorliegende Studie analysiert diese Produkte regionaler Industrialisierung, sie fragt nach den Rahmenbedingungen, ihren politischen, wirtschaftlichen und technologischen Grundlagen und berichtet über den sozialen Wandel, den die Lausitz in dieser Phase wirtschaftlicher Prosperität erlebt hat.
