The collected volume shows the myriad of relations between state law, religious law and common law in the Islamic world. Forms of legal pluralism in Muslim societies in the former Soviet Union, especially in the Northern Caucasus and Central Asia, are compared and contrasted with the legal traditions of other Muslim societies.
