Content:

The Jackal of Nahueltoro depicts a stunning portrait of the poverty stricken José del Carmen Valenzuela Torres, one of Chile's most infamous murderers. Wandering into homelessness at an absurdly young age, José has been condition on the fringe of society, scraping odd labor to adulthood. When he finally finds home again, his mother has remarried and has new children. It is not long before the hapless José returns to the dusty and dirt roads of his youth. Along the way he meets a single mother with four children. Soon, she is cast out of her house, and the group is left to fend for themselves in the wild. A night of debauchery leads to one of the most savage, pointless killing sprees in Chilean history. Juxtaposed with brash highlights of José's lifestory, The Jackal of Nahueltoro provokes the feeling of an undeniable tragedy through unforgettable imagery. Beautiful yet sad, Jose's plight raises the essential link between poverty and crime. A timeless piece of social commentary poignantly filmed. (Covertext)
