In der Vorbemerkung zu Band VIII/1 dieses Handbuches wurde darauf hingewiesen, daß die Fülle des Stoffes es notwendig machte, eine Unterteilung in Teilbände vorzunehmen. Band VIII/1 enthält dementsprechend die Technologie des Trink- und Brauchwassers, der häuslichen und gewerblichen Abwässer, sowie die Technologie des Kesselspeisewassers und einen Beitrag über Wasserrecht. Band VIII/2 sollte die Verfahren zur Untersuchung des Trink-, Brauch und Abwassers und die Beschreibung und Untersuchung der Mineralwässer einschließlich ihrer Hydrologie sowie der Peloide (Heilschlamme, Heilmoore und ähnliches) behandeln und im Anschluß daran die Tafelwasserverordnung und einen Beitrag über die Untersuchung der Luft bringen. Durch besondere kriegsbedingte Verhältnisse ist es nicht möglich gewesen, alle Beiträge gleichzeitig druckfertig zu machen. Um das Erscheinen der fertiggestellten Beiträge aber nicht langer zu verzögern, war es erforderlich, den vorgesehenen Band VIII/2 nochmals zu unterteilen. Teilband VIII/2 enthält im wesentlichen die Verfahren zur Untersuchung des Trink-, Brauch- und Abwassers, die Beiträge über die Hydrologie sowie über die Untersuchung der Luft. Teilband VIII/3, dessen Herausgabe ebenfalls bald zu erwarten ist, wird die Beschreibung und Untersuchung der Mineral- und Heilwässer und der Peloide sowie die Tafelwasser-Verordnung enthalten. Der Beitrag "Hydrologie", Verfasser Prof. Dr. R. KAMPE, Bad Ems, ist zwar hauptsächlich auf die Mineralquellen abgestellt, doch enthält er auch, darüber hinausgehend, allgemeine Hinweise; er ist deshalb in dem Teilband VIII/2 zum Abdruck gekommen; im Teilband VIII/3 wird nochmals auf ihn verwiesen werden. Um die getrennte Benützung der Teilbände zu erleichtern, wurden die Sachverzeichnisse gesondert gehalten und die Seitenzahlungen für jeden Teilband getrennt vorgenommen
