"[...] 1925 eröffnet sie [Palucca] eine eigene Schule für modernen Tanz in Dresden. [...] Sie knüpft Kontakte zu vielen Bauhauskünstlern. Für Moholy-Nagy ist Palucca die einzige Tänzerin, die die neue Ästhetik des Bauhausgedankens gestaltet. Später distanziert sie sich von den Bauhäuslern, um unter den Nationalsozialisten nicht anzuecken. Sie nimmt mit Leni Riefenstahl an der Olympiade-Eröffnung 1936 teil, verleugnet ihre jüdische Herkunft. Später in der DDR, nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg, gelingt es der Tanzpädagogin, im ausgebombten Dresden wieder zu unterrichten. Sie eröffnet ihre Schule neu, in der sie ihren Schülerinnen und Schülern vor allem Kreativität, Eigenständigkeit, Spontaneität und Verantwortungsbewusstsein für den eigenen Weg vermittelt und in den internationalen Sommerkursen, die seit 1957 in Dresden stattfinden, Kontakte auch zu westlichen Tänzern ermöglicht. 1949 wird die Palucca-Schule Dresden verstaatlicht. Trotz Schwierigkeiten und Auseinandersetzungen mit den Kulturfunktionären der DDR bleibt Gret Palucca in Dresden und schafft sich inmitten des sozialistischen Realismus eine künstlerische Insel. Wenn sie der DDR-Bürokratie grollt, zieht sie sich auf Hiddensee zurück und droht mit Abwanderung in den Westen. Aufgrund der Verquickung von privaten und öffentlichen Begebenheiten zeigt sich ein hochspannendes und widersprüchliches Bild einer Persönlichkeit, das ein Jahrhundert deutscher Geschichte aus einer besonderen Perspektive spiegelt."
