Die industrielle Fertigung ist einem ständigen Rationalisierungsprozeß unterworfen, um die Forderung nach wirtschaftlicher Erzeugung von Produkten zu gewährleisten. Vorhandene Rationalisierungsreserven müssen hierzu aufgespürt und ausgeschöpft werden. Besondere Bedeutung kommt dabei für den Bereich der Fertigung dem Einsatz der Betriebsmittel zu. Zur optimalen Ausnutzung der Betriebsmittel muß versucht werden, unabhängig von einem bestimmten Bearbeitungsverfahren und einer bestimmten Losgröße folgende Forderungen zu realisieren: 1. Der Anteil der Maschinenhauptzeit an der Bereitschaftszeit muß so groß wie möglich gehalten werden. 2. Die zur Verfügung stehende Maschinenhauptzeit muß den Zielsetzungen des Unternehmens entsprechend optimal ausgenutzt werden. Die erste Forderung zielt in erster Linie auf organisatorische Maßnahmen zur Verringerung der Maschinenbrachzeit ab sowie auf Maßnahmen zur Verringerung der Nutzungsnebenzeiten, wie sie z. B. durch die Automatisierung des Bearbeitungsablaufes sowie automatische Werkzeug- und Werkstückwechseleinrichtungen erzielt werden. Die Realisierung der zweiten Forderung bedingt eine optimale Gestaltung des Bearbeitungsablaufes und des Werkzeugeinsatzes sowie eine optimale Festlegung der Bearbeitungsbedingungen allgemein und der Schnittbedingungen im Bereich der spanenden Fertigung. Eine schon seit langem gebräuchliche Methode zur verbesserten Nutzung der verfügbaren Maschinenhauptzeit und damit zur Produktivitätssteigerung der Werkzeugmaschinen ist der simultane Einsatz von mehreren Werkzeugen. - 2 - "Unter dem simultanen Mehrwerkzeugeinsatz wird dabei die Bearbeitung eines Werkstückes oder mehrerer - mehreren gemeinsam aufgespannter Werkstücke mit Werkzeugen auf einer Maschine verstanden, wobei die Schnittzeiten der beteiligten Werkzeuge beliebig zeitlieb überdeckt und/oder beliebig aufeinanderfolgend sein können"
