Deborah Phillips Faszination für die Farbe Blau hat ihren Ursprung (...) in der Bibel: Das vierte Buch Moses enthält die Anweisung, an den vier Ecken des Gebetsmantels Fäden anzubringen, um sich stets an die Gebote Gottes zu erinnern. Einige der Fäden sollten blau, auf Hebräisch »tchelet«, gefärbt sein. Weil sich später nicht mehr ermitteln ließ, welche Farbe gemeint war, hoben die Gelehrten das Gebot auf, und alle Fäden sind seitdem weiß. Die rabbinischen Diskussionen über »tchelet« beschäftigten Deborah Phillips schon in ihrer Jugend. In Israel bezeichnet »tchelet« heute – ganz profan und doch überirdisch – die Farbe des Himmels.
