Fairytale Poem for symphony orchestra
Content:
The legendary composer Sofia Gubaidulina was born on October 24, 1931, and in honor of her 90th birthday, the Svetlanov Symphony Orchestra performs a gorgeous tribute concert at the prestigious Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow! Under the baton of the esteemed Vladimir Jurowski, the orchestra's program offers a thoroughly representative portrait of the distinguished composer's work and persona: incredibly demanding works full of innovation and spirituality, reflective of myriad inspirations and performed by a wide variety of instruments and ensembles. In Gubaidulina's Fairytale Poem, the whole symphony orchestra is in the spotlight; then a smaller chamber orchestra, accompanied by the incredible Nadezhda Gulitskaya, Anna Buturlina, Elena Manistina, Boris Pinkhasovich, and Elena Veremeenko, shines in Rubayat and Night in Memphis. Mirage: The Dancing Sun offers a rarely seen cello octet, and the evening comes to a close with the Concerto for Symphony Orchestra and Jazz Band, a truly unique piece that sees the excellent Bolshoi Jazz Orchestra welcomed into the fold, led by Pyotr Vostokov
