Der französische Zeichner, früher in Fällen um europäische Märchenfiguren ermittelnd (1995 erhielt er den Deutschen Jugendliteraturpreis für "Detektiv John Chatterton") befasst sich seit ein paar Jahren mit antiken Sagenstoffen. Sein letzter Titel liegt hier in deutscher Übersetzung vor. Höchst eindrucksvoll entsteht in einer Einheit von Bildern und Text dieses 10-jährige Reiseabenteuer des Glücksfalles eines antiken Helden, der ebenso stark wie furchtlos und schlau ist und dem nichts erspart bleibt an Schiffsbrüchen, Verführung und Verfolgung, Lebensbedrohung und Todesangst. Bei den Kapiteln um den Polyphem und dem Gemetzel bei der Ankunft des Helden zu Hause werden Grausamkeiten nicht verschwiegen, aber auch nicht ausgeweidet. Die fein gestrichelten Zeichnungen in kleinen und grossen Formaten sind richtig packend, wozu auch die griechisch anmutenden Gesichtszüge der Personen (Glossar hinten im Buch) beitragen. Aktueller Bezug: Ein Vater liest seinen Kindern diese Sage vor und klärt über ihre Herkunft auf. Ein spannend gestaltetes Stück Weltliteratur, besonders zum Vorlesen empfohlen! Ab 8
