Der heilige Martin (um 316-397) wird bis heute hochverehrt. Zahlreich sind die Legenden, die sich um seine Lebensdaten ranken. Der bekannte Autor erzählt davon in kurzen, eindringlichen Sätzen, u.a. vom Soldaten in römischen Diensten, der sich weigerte, gegen wehrlose Menschen Krieg zu führen, vom Taufbewerber, späteren Gründer des ersten christlichen Klosters in Europa und Bischof von Tours. Die vorliegende Neuauflage (Erstauflage vgl. BA 12/93) wurde von J. Jusim neu illustriert. Seine eindrucksvollen Bilder mit wenigen wichtigen Details in zarten, zurückhaltenden Farben zeigen sehr anschaulich Szenen aus dem Soldatenleben, - darunter auch die berühmte Mantelteilung -, von freiwilliger Einsamkeit und engagierter Nächstenliebe. Auf das Brauchtum zu seinem Fest (11. November) wird nur mit wenigen Sätzen hingewiesen; dazu mehr bei J. Sommersberg: "Der Tag ..." (BA 10/04) und "Martin und Cemile" (BA 1/97) sowie in vielen Titeln zur Adventszeit. Der Band über einen der populärsten Heiligen wird allen Öffentlichen (Schul-)Bibliotheken (Primarstufe) empfohlen.. - Leben und Legenden des heiligen Martin (um 316-397), zunächst römischer Soldat, dann Einsiedler und schließlich hochverehrter Bischof von Tours.
