Klappentext: Die mit dem Schlagwort "Digitalisierung" verbundenen gesellschaftlichen Veränderungen sind unübersehbar. Phänomene wie "homeoffice", "homeshopping" oder "homeschooling" gehören mittlerweile zum gesellschaftlich gefestigten Erfahrungsschatz, die Abhängigkeit der Bevölkerung von "Smartphones" ist eine Alltäglichkeit. Die vorliegende Studie deutet gegenwärtige gesellschaftliche Transformationsprozesse mit den Mitteln der Systemtheorie im Sinne Niklas Luhmanns. Deren theoretische Einsichten werden auf selbstreflexive Weise angewendet, um die Umrisse der Form einer "nächsten Gesellschaft" erkennbar zu machen. Methodisch erfolgt dies mittels funktionaler Analyse bzw. funktionalen Vergleichs. Konkret erlaubt der Vergleich der Form der gesellschaftlichen Bekämpfung der Corona-Pandemie mit der Form des sich etablierenden chinesischen Sozialkreditsystems, strukturelle Veränderungen der gegenwärtigen - noch primär funktional ausdifferenzierten - Gesellschaftsform auszumachen. Erkennbar wird, dass die Etablierung digitaler Formen der Kommunikation eine Ausrichtung der Gesellschaft im Sinne der Handlungstheorie forciert. Damit wird eine Privilegierung der Form der Organisation und von moralischen Perspektiven in der Gesellschaft theoretisch erwartbar. Eine empirische Überprüfung dieser funktionsanalytisch abgeleiteten Erwartung erfolgt anhand prosperierender gesellschaftlicher Phänomene wie der Cancel Culture, Verschwörungstheorien, der Dekonstruktion des Geschlechts und den sogenannten Influencern.
