Series Statement: Routledge studies in Latin American politics
Content: "Democracy and Brazil: Collapse and Regression discusses the de-democratization process underway in contemporary Brazil. The relative political stability that characterized domestic politics in the 2000s ended with the sudden emergence of a series of massive protests in 2013, followed by the controversial impeachment of Dilma Rousseff in 2016 and the election of Jair Bolsanaro in 2018. In this new, more conservative period in Brazilian politics, a series of institutional reforms deepened the distance between citizens and representatives. Brazil's current political crisis cannot be understood without reference to the continual growth of a new right-wing discourse, on the one hand, and to the neoliberal ideology that pervades the minds of large parts of the Brazilian elites, on the other. Eleven experts on Brazil across different fields discuss the ongoing political turmoil in the light of distinct problems: geopolitics, gender, religion, media, indigenous populations, right-wing strategies, new forms of coup, among others. Updated analyses enriched with historical perspective help to illuminate the intricate issues that will determine the country's fate in years to come. Democracy and Brazil: Collapse and Regression will interest students and scholars of Brazilian Politics and History, Latin America, and the broader fields of democracy studies"--

Bucaramanga (Santander, Colombia) : Universidad Autónoma de Bucaramanga UNAB, Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey ITESM" Baer, W. (1998). Will The Internet Transform Higher Education. Institute for Information Studies.

Content: An investigation was carried out in an educational institution in Santander Colombia on the knowledge and uses that are given to new information and communication technologies (ICTs) by students and teachers. For the analysis of the applied instruments, the mixed approach was used, integrating quantitative and qualitative data; In search of the veracity of the information obtained, the methodological triangulation was applied, comparing the data filled out with those observed. The population to which the surveyed sample belongs is of low economic resources (levels 1 and 2) and the vast majority of the use of computers and the Internet is in the educational institution since the municipality only has Internet for the service of the Palmeña community in the school, in the telecentre located within the educational campus and an Internet cafe, therefore the consolidation of virtual technological tools is limited. Students and teachers use televisions, cell phones and computers as didactic support items in the development of the themes proposed in each subject, where they coordinate their loan since there are very few and it is necessary to plan the hours of use of these and thus manipulate them by the majority of the educational personnel.Among the virtual ICTs used by the sample were e-mail, social communities (Facebook and Flick) and blogs; there are other technologies that they know but their manipulation is very little, preventing a better consolidation. Teachers are interested in participating in training related to the management and design of technological tools to use new learning environments for the benefit of the educational community and in obtaining an updated education.
