Rautmann untersucht den gesamten Delacroix und zwar nicht nur die fertigen Öl- und Wandbilder, sondern auch die Studien, Zeichnungen, farbigen Skizzen u.a. "unter dem Aspekt ihrer Modernität" und stellt sie in einen französischen wie europäischen Kontext.
