Klappentext: Adolf Reichwein war einer der wenigen deutschen Pädagogen, die sich von Anfang an für die erste deutsche Republik einsetzten und sich später am aktiven Widerstand gegen das Naziregime beteiligten. Er war ein Reformpädagoge, der mit der Jugendbewegung aus kleinbürgerlichen Verhältnissen des 19. Jahrhunderts aufbrach, um mit pädagogischen Mitteln eine bessere Zukunft zu erkämpfen, und der dafür am Ende sein Leben ließ. Dieser Band versammelt Worte des Gedenkens und der Würdigung in Erinnerung an seinen 50. Todestag. In ihnen entsteht aus verschiedenen Perspektiven ein farbiges Mosaik der Person, des Lebens und des Wirkens Adolf Reichweins, seiner Bedeutung für heutige Menschen und für die Situation Deutschlands nach der Vereinigung. Reichweins Leben gibt ein Beispiel für die Vielseitigkeit und Konsequenz einer reformpädagogischen Grundeinstellung in wechselvollen, schweren politischen Zeiten. Sein Wirken bewegte sich noch in einem ungeteilten Deutschland und während der Teilung wurden in beiden Teilen Schulen und Straßen nach ihm benannt. Die Erinnerung an ihn war eine der vielen gesamtdeutschen Klammern, sie könnte auch heute den Prozeß des Zusammenwachsens befördern.
