Das Standardwerk "Aby Warburg: eine intellektuelle Biographie" (ID 4/82) stammt vom langjährigen Direktor des Warburg-Instituts, E. H. Gombrich, der zu der Vortragsreihe zu Person und Werk des Kunsthistorikers Warburg, die anläßlich der "Aby-Warburg-Wochen" 1994 in Hamburg stattfand und hier in leicht überarbeiteter Form vorliegt, ebenfalls einen Beitrag verfaßt hat. Weitere bedeutende Fachgelehrte wie Rene Drommert und Werner Hofmann berichten teilweise noch aus eigener Kenntnis von der Person Warburgs, von den zentralen Stationen in Leben und Werk des Kunsthistorikers sowie von seinem Nachwirken, insbesondere in Hamburg.
