Der von Zensur und Verleihern verstümmelte Klassiker wurde neu rekonstruiert. Die farbige Rekonstruktion stützt sich auf Nitrofilmelemente aus den Filmmuseen München und Düsseldorf und aus dem Filmarchiv Austria. Mit 2.150 Metern kommt sie der Premierenfassung näher als alle bisher bekannten Überlieferungen. Im Booklet zur DVD beleuchtet Stefan Drössler die bisher unbekannte Lebensgeschichte von Robert Reinert, als Zusatzmaterial bietet die DVD zudem ein Fragment von Reinerts verschollenem Monumentalfilm Sterbende Völker."
