Zwiespältige Gefühle bewegen den Grafen Tron, Commissario im Dienste der österreichischen Besatzer in der Lagunenstadt. Im Februar 1865 weist das Regime der Besatzungsmacht deutliche Verfallserscheinungen auf: Alvise Tron, aus uraltem venezianischem Adel, steht der italienischen Einigung sehr skeptisch gegenüber, vor allem ist er sicher, dass er unter dem neuen Regime keine berufliche Zukunft haben wird. Ein englischer Gelehrter, Sebastian Flyte, entdeckt in der Biblioteca Marciana Fragmente des Tagebuches eines Zanetto Tron, der sich 1202 auf den 4. Kreuzzug begab und in eine erstaunliche Geschichte verwickelt wurde. Tron ist sehr interessiert an den Aufzeichnungen seines Vorfahren; aber als um den Besitz der Tagebücher ein Kampf zwischen Kaiser und Papst entbrennt und immer mehr Leichen auftauchen, muss er handeln. Remin beginnt seinen 6. Roman um Alvise Tron (nach "Requiem am Rialto", BA 11/09) wie einen Verschwörungsthriller, aber er spielt mit den Versatzstücken des Genre, um sie ironisch zu spiegeln und zu verfremden. Ein schöner, historischer Krimi mit literarischem Anspruch. Sehr empfohlen. [Irmgard Behnke]
