Deze eerste grote monografie over Paleis Het Loo gaat over de bouw, inrichting, bewoning en tuinen van het paleis vanaf de aankoop van het terrein door prins Willem III in 1684 tot en met de openstelling als museum onder koningin Beatrix in 1984. In de drie tussenliggende eeuwen werd het paleis bewoond door tien opeenvolgende generaties Oranjes. Het Loo werd hun meest geliefde zomerpaleis, maar ook een reisdoel voor kijklustigen en al wie zich wilde vergapen aan de pracht en praal van dit grootste paleis van Nederland. Ook de minder fortuinlijke tijden van het paleis en het komen en gaan van de vele bijgebouwen worden belicht. De geschiedenis wordt tot leven gebracht aan de hand van dagboekfragmenten, reisjournalen en brieven. Het boek is ingedeeld in negen hoofdstukken en bevat 84 bijdragen van 21 auteurs onder wie veel medewerkers en oud-medewerkers van Paleis Het Loo. De coördinatie, samenstelling en redactie berustte bij Anne-Dirk Renting. Tot de verdere auteurs behoren o.a. Johan Carel Bierens de Haan, Johan de Haan, Hanna Klarenbeek, Johan ter Molen, Paul Rem en Heimerick Tromp. Het boek verschijnt bij de heropening van Paleis Het Loo in april 2022
