Erfolgreiche italienische Einwanderer im Deutschland der Frühen Neuzeit. Heute ist die Präsenz von Italienern in Deutschland eine Selbstverständlichkeit. Weniger bekannt ist jedoch, dass Bewohner der Apenninhalbinsel auch in vergangenen Jahrhunderten nach Deutschland gekommen sind und hier nachhaltig das wirtschaftliche und kulturelle Leben prägten. Die Arbeit befasst sich mit dem ökonomischen und sozialen Aufstieg italienischer Händler, insbesondere der Brentano-Familien, im 17. und 18. Jahrhundert in Deutschland. Ziel ist es, die Funktion von Migrationssystemen zu erschließen, die Bedeutung von Familienverbindungen und Handelsstrukturen in der Migration herauszuarbeiten sowie Mechanismen der Integration auszuweisen
