Um 1500 existierte in Spanien ein Nebeneinander westlicher und arabischer Musikwelten, die sich z.B. durch Funktion und soziale Gebundenheit massiv unterschieden. Chant 1450 singt hier einerseits geistliche A-cappella-Stücke, während Mahmoud Turkmani Improvisationen auf der traditionellen arabischen Laute Ud spielt. So begegnen sich Ost und West, Improvisation und Komposition, Instrumental- und Vokalmusik.
