Eine kunstwissenschaftliche Untersuchung zur Führer- und Funktionärsikonografie im Dritten Reich gab es bis heute nicht, obwohl sich gerade in den Porträts der NS-Machthaber nationalsozialistisches Kunstwollen wiederfindet. Nicht nur Hitlers Porträt wird hier untersucht. Die vorliegende Arbeit befasst sich ausführlich mit dem Bilderkult, der um die Nazigrössen wie Göring, Goebbels und Heydrich getrieben wurde. Ebenfalls das Bild der Frau kann um die Facetten "keusche Helferin" und "dominante Führerin" erweitert werden. Die künstlerische Auseinandersetzung mit den meisten NS-Führern endet bekanntlich 1945. In der Kunst der Bundesrepublik ist Hitlers Gesicht ein Markenzeichen geblieben. Die Untersuchung zeigt, dass der mit allen Schrecken des Dritten Reiches gleichgesetzte Hitler jetzt als Sinnbild des Bösen nahezu die Bedeutung hat, die vormals nur der Figur des Teufels zukam
