Frédéric Rossif dresse la terrible fresque de la Seconde Guerre mondiale en deux chapitres, de 1933 à 1945, de la montée en puissance d'Hitler et du parti nazi jusqu'à son ultime défaite. Le Triomphe de la Volonté (1933-1942) : En 1935, à Nuremberg, au congrès du parti nazi, des milliers de nazis acclament Hitler au cri de "Quoi que tu ordonnes, ô führer, nous l'accomplirons". En 1940, l'Allemagne nazie domine l'Europe. Avec ses alliés italiens et japonais, elle entend imposer au monde son idéologie totalitaire. La Défaite et le Jugement (1942-1945) : En 1942, le monde entier est en feu, mais déjà des signes marquent le passage du temps de la résistance au tournant décisif, après Stalingrad et le débarquement allié en Sicile. En face, les fascismes se durcissent : liquidation du ghetto de Varsovie, extermination des Juifs dans les camps... En 1945, la défaite des nazis, le suicide de Hitler, la bombe atomique d'Hiroshima puis le jugement des criminels de guerre nazis à Nuremberg concluent ce récit ahurissant. (Covertext)
