"Modernste Dieselmotoren der EURO6d Norm haben die Stickstoffoxidemissionen (NOx) als auch die Partikelemissionen fast vollumfänglich eliminiert. Auf dem Weg zu dieser neuesten Abgasnachbehandlungstechnologie der zweiten Generation wurden erste Versuche Ende der 2000er Jahre in den Forschungsabteilungen durchgeführt und der langjährige Weg bis zur Serieneinführung 2016 beschritten. Bei den Vorgängeremissionsnormen EURO5 und EURO6, die Fahrzeuge der Jahre 2009 bis 2017 betreffen, war der Stand des Wissens weniger umfangreich. So musste die Entwicklung entlang am Stand des Wissens die physikalischen, chemischen Grenzen insbesondere der Abgasrückführsysteme, die bei EURO5 die Haupttechnologie zur NOx-Emissionsreduzierung darstellten, ausgelotet werden.
