Im Angesicht der zu erwartenden Todesstrafe erzählt er seine Version, die die Opfer als geldgierige, arrogante und grausame Herrenmenschen zeigt, die ihre schwarzen Arbeiter wie Tiere behandeln. Die abenteuerliche Handlung und die Schrecken des Dschungels erinnern an Joseph Conrads "Herz der Finsternis", doch der Autor dreht die Spannungsschraube weiter an, indem er dem Erdinnern weiße menschenähnliche Wesen entsteigen lässt. Im Vergleich mit "Im Rausch der Stille", das auf wenigen Seiten eine atemberaubende, klaustrophobische Spannung erzeugt, fällt der neue Roman etwas ab, ist aber mit seiner geheimnisvollen und bizarren Handlung sowie seinen zivilisationskritischen Anspielungen auch wieder für ein breites Publikum zu empfehlen.
