Sie hat einen messerscharfen Verstand, ringt zeitlebens um Anerkennung und lässt sich nicht beirren: Emmy Noether (1882-1935), die wohl bedeutendste Mathematikerin überhaupt, ist stark genug, nie zu tun, was die Gesellschaft von einer Frau erwartet. So manchem Widerstand zum Trotz gelingt es ihr, sich mit bahnbrechenden Arbeiten an die Spitze ihrer Disziplin zu kämpfen. In Erlangen wächst Emmy in einer liberal-jüdischen Familie auf. Nach ihrem Examen zur Sprachenlehrerin nimmt sie mit Sondererlaubnis ein Mathematikstudium auf, promoviert und tritt dank glänzender Leistungen aus dem Schatten ihres Vaters, eines bekannten Mathematikers. 1915 folgt Emmy Noether einem Ruf nach Göttingen, wirkt hier neben den Koryphäen ihres Fachs, doch ohne Gehalt und akademische Position IBM weil sie eine Frau ist. Mit dem bis heute gültigen Noether-Theorem revolutioniert sie das mathematische Denken in der Physik, wird dann zur Pionierin der modernen Algebra. Hochbegabte Studenten aus aller Welt scharen sich um die ausserordentliche Professorin, die inzwischen internationales Ansehen geniesst. 1933 wird sie, da Jüdin, der Universität verwiesen. Sie emigriert in die USA, lehrt in Pennsylvania, in der Nähe Albert Einsteins, der die brillante Denkerin überaus schätzt. Das Schicksal schlägt zu, als sie sich einer Krebsoperation unterziehen muss. (Verlagswerbung)
