Jahrhundert erzählt Werner Herzog die Passionsgeschichte des Außenseiters Kaspar Hauser: 1829 in Nürnberg als sprach- und entwicklungsgestörtes Findelkind aufgefunden, wird der Junge zum Studienobjekt für Ärzte, Pädagogen und Theologen, erfährt die Erziehungs- und Eingliederungsversuche der Biedermeiergesellschaft, verharrt jedoch in skeptischer Distanz zu seiner neuen Umwelt, bis er 1833 einem ungeklärten Mord zum Opfer fällt.
