"Die alljährliche Jagd auf Schloss Vogelöd fällt strömendem Regen zum Opfer, sodass sich die Anwesenden im Schloss aufhalten müssen. Die aufkommende Langeweile findet ein Ende, als der Besuch eines Grafen angekündigt wird, der ein Jahr zuvor seinen Bruder erschossen haben soll. Sein Auftauchen führt zu Reibereien mit der Witwe des Toten, die mit ihrem neuen Ehemann auf dem Schloss weilt. Ein mysteriöser Verwandter des Toten sorgt für weitere Verstörung.
