TON-E Ausschlaggebend für die Programmauswahl des Maalot Quintetts und des Pianisten Markus Becker ist die Tatsache, dass es von Beethoven ein großformatiges und großartiges Originalwerk für vier Blasinstrumente (Oboe, Klarinette, Horn, Fagott) und Klavier gibt, das zum Zeitpunkt seiner Uraufführung (1796) in seinem musikalischen Anspruch und der kompositorischen Ausarbeitung weit über das Übliche herausragt, was bis dahin für Blasinstrumente geschrieben worden war. Diesem Originalwerk stellen die Musiker ein Werk Beethovens gegenüber, das in seiner Originalgestalt zwar verlorengegangen ist, aber doch so weit rekonstruiert werden konnte, dass der Klarinettist des Quintetts, Ulf- Guido Schäfer, daraus ein Arrangement für Klavier und Bläserquintett fertigen konnte.
