In diesem wie ein therapeutischer Ratgeber aufgemachten Buch präsentieren Schönberger und Bittel 100 Romane, die ihrer Meinung nach eine Lektüre wert sind. Unter Rubriken wie "Liebe und Sex" oder "Beruf - Karriere - Geld" findet die Leserin auf jeweils 3 Seiten eine kurze Beschreibung des problematischen Gemütszustandes und eine Empfehlung für den Roman, der Erleichterung verspricht. Die Buchempfehlung besteht in einem kurzen Einstieg in die Handlung sowie Hintergrundwissen zu Autor und gegebenenfalls Entstehung des Textes. Der Großteil der mit viel Enthusiasmus besprochenen Romane zählt zur Weltliteratur der Moderne, wie z.B. Werke von Joyce, Proust, Hemingway oder Kafka. Andere Autoren wiederum waren in den letzten Jahren auf der "Spiegel"-Bestsellerliste zu finden (z.B. Mankell, Franzen, Kehlmann). Dennoch wirkt die Auswahl zufällig und häufig ist nicht mehr als ein konstruierter Zusammenhang zwischen Symptom und Therapielektüre zu erkennen. So stellt sich die Frage, ob nach der Lektüre mehr bleibt als eine nette Idee und der eine oder andere Lesetipp aus dem persönlichen Kanon der Autoren. (3)
