Mit dem Topos »Sichtbarkeit« greift dieses Buch eine Denkfigur auf, die in den politischen Debatten um die Anerkennung marginalisierter Gruppen eine zentrale Rolle spielt. Wie aber können minorisierte Positionen visuell dargestellt werden, ohne in der Form ihrer Darstellung Minorisierung zu wiederholen? An dieser Schnittstelle zwischen ästhetischen, antirassistischen und queer-feministischen Fragestellungen setzt das Buch mit Mitteln der Visual-Culture-Forschung an. Dabei arbeitet es heraus, dass und wie sich Hegemonie grundlegend über ästhetische Formen herstellt. Die Frage der Sichtbarkeit wird somit in das Feld der visuellen Ästhetik und der Bilder rückübersetzt, um deren politische Bedeutung zu unterstreichen. Zudem werden analytische Begriffe und Figuren als Instrumentarien gegen Minorisierungen im visuellen Feld bereitgestellt
