Aus den frühen Londoner Jahren von Georg Friedrich Händel sind geistliche und weltliche Werke überliefert, mit denen er als vielseitiger Komponist in der gehobenen Gesellschaft Fuß fassen wollte. Mit Opern (beispielhaft hier die Suite aus Il Pastor fido) bediente er das Unterhaltungsbedürfnis, mit Geburtstagsoden (Ode for the Birthday of Queen Anne) huldigte er der Obrigkeit und mit dem Utrechter Te Deum und dem Jubilate, geschrieben für die Feier des Friedens von Utrecht, der 1713 das Ende des Spanischen Erbfolgekriegs ermöglichte, schuf er die passende Festmusik, die bis heute nichts von ihrer Wirkung eingebüßt hat. Die Gaechinger Cantorey unter Hans-Christoph Rademann interpretiert diese Meisterwerke Händels. pr
