Die ungarische Dichterin Ágnes Nemes Nagy (1922-1991) gehörte jener Generation an, deren Jugend und Heranreifen zur Dichterin in die Jahre des Zweiten Weltkriegs fiel. Der Krieg zwang sie alle zur Stellungnahme und er wurde für ihr ganzes Leben zur Referenzbasis. Auch dann, wenn sie keine Zeile darüber geschrieben haben. Wenn ich versuche, sie innerhalb ihrer Generation auf der Weltkarte der Lyrik zu platzieren, dann gehört Nemes Nagy in die Gesellschaft von Lyrikern, deren Poetik miteinander verwandt war oder, im Gegenteil, zueinander in Opposition stand wie Paul Celan, Ingeborg Bachmann, Yves Bonnefoy, Wislawa Szymborska, Lorand Gaspar, Miroslav Holub, Philip Larkin, Vasko Popa, Allen Ginsberg und Robert Lowell, ebenso Franz Fühmann, der an seinem Lebensabend einen Gedichtband von ihr übersetzt hat.
