Das Buch stellt die 30 Artikel der Allgemeinen Erklärung der Menschenrechte jeweils auf einer Doppelseite mit Text und Bild gut verständlich für Kinder dar. Autorin und Illustratorin haben mit Amnesty International zusammengearbeitet und auch Kinder den Inhalt testen lassen. Die vergleichbaren Titel "Die allgemeine Erklärung der Menschenrechte in Wort und Bild" und "Wir sind alle frei geboren" sind schon älter und wahrscheinlich nicht mehr im Bestand. In diesem Jahr ist für etwas jüngere Kinder noch das Sachbilderbuch "Gleiches Recht für alle!" erschienen. Das vorliegende Buch richtet sich an etwas ältere Kinder und bietet eine gute Grundlage, um die Menschenrechte in der Schule oder im Elternhaus gemeinsam zu thematisieren und zu diskutieren. Positiv fällt bei den Illustrationen auf, dass im Buch viele unterschiedliche Menschen dargestellt sind, Mädchen und Jungen, gleichgeschlechtliche Paare, Alte und Junge, Menschen mit unterschiedlicher Hautfarbe, Menschen mit und ohne Behinderung.
