Das vorliegende aus zwei Teilbänden bestehende Lehrbuch ist für Studierende der Nachrichtentechnik an Fachhochschulen und Universitäten konzipiert. Es dient als Ergänzung der bekannten Hochfrequenzbücher (siehe Literaturverzeichnis), bei denen auf Grund der Stoffülle die Herleitungen äußerst knapp gehalten sind. Durch die Betrachtung nur einiger weniger Anwendungsfälle der HF-Technik ist es möglich, ausführliche (nachvollziehbare) Ableitungen durchzuführen und zum besseren Verständnis viele durchgerechnete Beispiele und Übungsaufgaben (Kleindruck) vorzusehen. Auch bei den Übungsaufgaben, deren Lösungen im Anhang zusammengestellt sind, wurde eine ausführliche Form des Lösungsweges angestrebt. Wo der inhaltliche Rahmen des Buches gesprengt wird, ist auf Darstellungen in der weiterführenden Literatur verwiesen (z. B. Computerprogramme).

Vorausgesetzt werden für Band I mathematische Kenntnisse über komplexe Rechnung, Differential- und Integralrechnung sowie Fourierreihen (Niveau: Fachhochschulvordiplom in Elektrotechnik). Für Band II werden zusätzlich Differentialgleichungen und die Feldtheorie benötigt. Band I beinhaltet die wichtigsten HF-Berechnungsverfahren (Frequenzumsetzung, Filterung, Verstärkung und Oszillation) von Ersatzschaltungen mit diskreten Bauelementen. Außerdem werden in Band I (Kap. 7) das Kreis- und das Smithdiagramm für eine Schaltungssynthese vorgestellt, während die Dimensionierung bzw. Optimierung (heute in der Praxis mit Computerhilfe) mit den normierten Wellen des Kap. 9 (Band II) erfolgt. Weiterhin behandelt Band 2 die Wellenausbreitung bzw. -übertragung (spezielle Leistungsarten und Antennen). Der in den beiden Bänden dargestellte Stoff bietet somit eine Einführung in die HF-Technik sowie ihrer Berechnungsmethoden.
