Auch deshalb kann die Aufarbeitung des Ersten Weltkriegs nicht allein als Aufgabe der Historiker betrachtet werden. Autoren wie Kurt Tucholsky, Georg Trakl, Wilhelm Klemm, Ernst Jünger, Ernst Toller oder Karl Kraus, aber auch Guillaume Apollinaire, Giuseppe Ungaretti oder Wilfred Owen, Antikriegsfilme wie »The Big Parade«, Arbeiten von Paul Klee, Reportagen von Philip Gibbs, Soldatenlieder und Kompositionen von Arnold Schönberg oder Alban Berg werden u.a. in den Beiträgen erörtert. Der britische Historiker Christopher Clark eröffnet den Sammelband mit Perspektiven zur Vorgeschichte des Ersten Weltkriegs. Die weiteren Beiträger sind: Jörn Leonhard, Werner Frick, Achim Aurnhammer, Rolf G.
