Scheidung verliess sie England; auf ihrem Weg durch die europäischen Metropolen liess sie 3 Ehemänner und eine stattliche Anzahl von Liebhabern und Anbetern, u.a. Ludwig I. von Bayern, den späteren österreichischen Kanzler von Schwarzenberg und einen griechischen Freiheitskämpfer mit gebrochenem Herzen zurück. Mit 50 Jahren entdeckte sie auf gewagten Expeditionen ihre Liebe zum Orient, sie starb 79jährig in den Armen ihres 4. Ehemannes, eines syrischen Beduinenscheichs. Ein so bewegtes Schicksal ist die ideale Vorlage für einen historischen Frauenroman, romantisch, breit angelegt und personenreich, in dem auch das Zeitkolorit nicht zu kurz kommt.
