Anna Treplin, Tochter einer wohlhabenden Kauf-mannsfamilie, und der Chirurg und Chefarzt Dr. Lorenz Treplin, 1914 als Stabsarzt zum Kriegsdienst eingezogen, führten eine regelmäßige, ebenso umfang- wie aufschlussreiche Korrespondenz. Sie zeichnet den langsamen Verlust von Normalität, den Umgang mit Tod und Trauer ebenso nach wie die Probleme des Alltags in der Heimat und an der Front und die Auswirkungen des Krieges auf die Familie und deren Zusammenhalt. Ein wichtiger, neuartiger Beitrag zur "Geschichte der Gesellschaft im Kriege" und des Bür-gertums zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts.
