Im Fernsehen, im Rundfunk und in der Presse wird die Qualität unserer Nahrungspflanzen immer öfter zur Diskussion gestellt. Das Unbehagen über die wachsende 'Chemisierung' unseres Lebens und unserer pflanzlichen Nahrungsmittel wächst ständig. Die Zunahme der Zivilisationskrankheiten, insbesondere auch vieler unerklärlicher Allergien, beunruhigen Ärzte und Patienten. Das Interesse der Verbraucher an der Erzeugung einwandfreier Nahrungsmittel ist geweckt. Die Bedenken gegenüber ihren Produktionsmethoden sind unüberhörbar. Die Kritik richtet sich in erster Linie gegen intensive chemische Düngungs- und Pflanzenschutzmaßnahmen. Im Hinblick auf die Summation chemischer Mittel, die allein schon bei den Pestiziden zu einer Potenzierung ihrer Toxizität führen kann und die beunruhigende Tatsache einer Interaktion zwischen einigen Pestiziden der chlorierten Kohlenwasserstoffgruppe mit viel angewandten Pharmaka, z.B. Aminopyrin, Tolbutamid, Heptabarbital und Phenylbutazon, macht auf dem landwirtschaftlichen Sektor eine drastische Lösung des Problems durch Einführung anderer, weniger bedenklicher Anbaumethoden erforderlich. Das Bagatellisieren der Gefahren, die durch Anwendung moderner chemischer Anbaumethoden entstehen können, nützt dem Verbraucher ebensowenig wie ein vorschnelles, abschätziges Urteil über einen 'biologischen', 'organischen' oder über einen Anbau mit 'integriertem' Pflanzenschutz. Was ihm nützen kann, ist ein kritisch-objektiver experimenteller Vergleich der verschiedenen Anbaumethoden im Hinblick auf Ernährungsphysiologie und Ernährungshygiene
