Sie darf seine literarischen Texte ins Tschechische übersetzen. Ihr Briefwechsel wird immer liebevoller und sie lernen sich näher kennen. Franz, verlobt, und Milena, verheiratet, verleben gemeinsame schöne Monate bis er zurück nach Prag geht. Sie macht Karriere als Journalistin. Kurz vor Franzens frühem Tod wird ihr eine Kiste überbracht. Darin sind seine Tagebücher - ein Liebesbeweis erster Güte. Wunderbar anschaulich präsentiert S. Schuster (zuletzt ID-A 35/20) in der beeindruckenden Reihe "Außergewöhnliche Frauen zwischen Aufbruch und Liebe" (zuletzt ID-A 40/20) einige Jahre im Leben einer besonderen Persönlichkeit. Der Roman wird beherrscht von zwei Künstlerseelen, welche die Gefühle der Leser*innen tief berühren.

Die lebenslustige Pragerin Milena heiratet den Falschen. Sie lernt den Schriftsteller Franz Kafka kennen und wird seine Übersetzerin. Er animiert sie zum Schreiben, wird ihr Retter aus bitterer Not und kann doch ihre Liebe, selbst am Totenbett, nicht annehmen.
