Das Buch ist eine Art Autobiografie, der Autor schildert seine Perspektive auf die Entwicklung des jugoslawischen Konfliktes, seine Reisen, Tätigkeiten und Erlebnisse dort. Tragische menschliche und örtliche Schicksale als Folge serbischer Politik finden darin seine Schilderung. Wiederholt betont der Autor das Versagen westlicher Regierungen in der Region und bringt Beispiele und Argumente, um seine Thesen zu untermauern. Die Fokussierung auf Bosnien-Herzegowina, mit viel Verständnis und Respekt für Kultur und Bevölkerung, ist besonders wertvoll. - Das Buch bietet einen gut dokumentierten Einblick und wird durch ein Literaturverzeichnis, Personenregister und einige historische Dokumente abgerundet. Einkauf durch mittelgrosse Bibliotheken sinnvoll, für grosse Bibliotheken mit gut ausgebauten Beständen zur Geschichte Südosteuropas ein Muss. (2-3)
